Philips' TDA8939TH Class-D amplifier meets industry demand for robust, high-performance digital amplifier solutions

Philips Electronics has introduced a semiconductor reference design for the industry's first high-power, fully digital Class-D amplifier solution. To meet industry demand for these amplifier solutions, Philips has integrated advanced pulse width modulation (PWM) technology to offer customers a high-performance, plug-and-play reference design based on Philips' TDA8939TH - which can

deliver 140W RMS output in a single package. This reference design will allow Philips' customers to quickly implement a robust, high-performance Class-D amplifier solution into slim line applications for the Connected Consumer. 


With the proliferation of digital audio and video devices, the industry is moving towards high-power, fully digital amplifier solutions. Advanced applications such as home theater in a box, DVD receivers and A/V receivers demand solutions such as Philips' new Class-D amplifier that has the features required for next-generation connected consumer electronics devices. 


Accordingly, Philips' TDA8939TH offers a fully digital amplifier solution, robust performance at high power and a small form factor suitable for slim line applications. In addition, the reference design's integrated PWM controller eliminates the need for additional sound processing chips. This allows Philips to provide customers with a complete amplification module to aid them in the development of advanced audio solutions, enhancing performance while reducing time-to-market.


In addition to being a fully digital, high-power solution, Philips' TDA8939TH amplifier chip provides excellent timing accuracy and the industry's best ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) performance. It also provides customers with the flexibility to select various power levels and delivers up to 140W output power in one channel.
